After a lucky week on Great Barrier Island we're b

After a lucky week on Great Barrier Island we're back home and reunited with our beautiful furry best mate, Riley.
To rest, rest, rest is the most fortunate gift, to completely stop and reset.
Each day we woke to the sound of the sea in a wee hut by the shore. A giant late flowering pohutukawa bloomed anew every day and was filled with the humming buzz of bees at work.
In the mornings we would sit on the jetty drinking our coffee and look down into the amazingly clear water watching the eagle ray, wee fish and the light always changing.
An octopus had made it's home at the base of one of the posts under a lip of concrete, we could see one it's red tentacles peeking out which would occasionally pull in a shell or two for protection.
Lying on the ground watching the trees, still and peaceful.
I drew this fish while chilling on the couch by the window, where the white heron would quietly stalk it's food in the shallow inlet.
Sometimes the mother duck would waddle by with her 4 ducklings who were getting braver by the day.
I'm so grateful we could begin this year in this way and return to a home that we love so truly.
Happy New Year everyone, take really good care of yourselves and lay on the grass every now and then for a wee rest 🍃

When I first had the opportunity to paint a mural I had no idea I'd be doing do a few more.
The thing I have loved most though is meeting a whole new community of folks, a socially active, shifting, stimulating, grassroots, progressive and inclusive crew. The immediacy of contributing to a streetscape, of meeting the local community and working with your mates and a team is so fulfilling. Damn I'm grateful🔥
