Created during a workshop with Carla Ruka 2017.

   Working with a darker clay is not my norm so it was a challenge for me to create a surface that felt alive and interesting to me.

   The impressions made in the clay add vitality to the surface, like scales, the carved black slip designs accentuate movement and action reminding me of a fish, with its fins at the sides and gaping mouth open at the top.
